Based on a true, unsolved mystery that happen almost 49 years ago, people are still wondering who committed the murder of Carmen Colón, Wanda Walkowicz and Michelle Maenza. At 4:20 p.m. on November 16, 1971 a 10-year-old by the name of Carmen Colón disappeared while returning home from an errand to a neighborhood store in Rochester, New York. Seventeen months later, at approximately 5:00 p.m. on April 2, 1973, 11-year-old Wanda Walkowicz disappeared from the east side of Rochester while returning home from an errand. Seven months later, on the evening of November 26, 1973, 11-year-old Michelle Maenza was reported missing by her mother after she failed to return home from school. Who killed these girls is still a mystery almost 49 years later. This is their story as told on a more personal level.
All three were preadolescent females who had disappeared on a rainy, overcast night in Rochester, NY. They had families, they had friends and when their lifeless bodies were found, they mourned, as did all of Rochester at the end of life for three little girls. The disappearance of Carmen at 10 years old took place in 1971. There were countless suspects interviewed but without modern technology of cameras and forensic evidence the trails ran cold. Interest peaked again in 1973 when Wanda age 11 went missing, then close on her heels, Michelle age 11 followed. The search would be endless, with every lead followed, only to end in disappointment. Why would someone abduct these girls and leave their lifeless bodies close to the expressway, seemingly thrown or carried to that location.
The leads that connected the three little girls was that they had been raped before being strangled to death and each had ingested food shortly before their death. This was significant since neither girl was known to have eaten prior to her disappearance. Who killed these girls is still a mystery almost 49 years later.
