Arriving in time for Christmas, Legends of Windemere: The Mercenary Prince!
Three temples have been purified and the champions are ready for their next adventure in Merchant of Nevra Coil. The 8th volume of the Legends of Windemere epic fantasy series is filled with the same action and humor as its predecessors. Only this time things are getting a little out of control for our heroes.
When they return to the kingdom of Ralian, the champions find that they are becoming celebrities. At every turn, they are met with mobs of fans, which makes it impossible to continue their search for the next temple. Even more worrisome, the surge in attention threatens to break the curse that keeps Baron Kernaghan locked out of history. If the situation continues, the most evil warlord of Windemere could return to the world long before his enemies are ready to face him. All of this because somebody has made collectible figurines of the champions and several of their enemies.
Now the champions are on the hunt for the creator and aim to put a stop to these toys. Yet finding the gnome behind this fad is only the beginning. Yola Biggs, the exiled Chaos Goddess, is furious about being left out and is out to earn herself a figurine. It doesn’t matter that nobody knows she has sided with the Baron, his presence protecting her from the gods who wish to seal her away. When the unpredictable deity collides with the champions, this adventure goes from threatening an ancient curse to putting the entire world in danger. Who is going to save Windemere when the champions are either trapped in their toys, locked in an asylum, or so confused that they do not even know where to start with a rescue?
Two major focuses of this book are fun and character development. After the events of Sleeper of the Wildwood Fugue, I felt like writing a more lighthearted adventure that still had an impact on the overall story. So while parts of this book can be silly, they still cause every character involved to reach some type of revelation about themselves. One of the central themes in this series is how the characters mature and develop in the midst of their epic adventure. In the case of The Merchant of Nevra Coil, that focus takes more of a central stage. It also paves the way for some major plot points in the future installments and replaces the subplots that have recently been closed. Not to mention, I finally get to showcase Yola Biggs, who has been an entertaining background character for a while.
