The challenge: write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days or less. Hmmm… I can do that. And what better place and time to get started than in Guanajuato, México the weekend of November 2, 2013--just after the fiestas of El Dia de Los Muertos are over?
Memories, Mummies, México is the result. The celebration of the Day of the Dead provides a colorful start for an adventure that leads journalist Ellen in fierce pursuit of a story about a native healer's potion that, if it checks out, could help her mother hold Alzheimer’s disease at bay. You can follow her as she explores the heroic early days of the Méxican struggle for independence from Spain in the picturesque and romantic old colonial towns of San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato.
The story leads Ellen into meetings with an enigmatic Indian healer at his shack in the desert. And it puts her lover Mike in the unwanted role of being an ally against a giant drug company that will stop at nothing to beat Ellen to the discovery of the miracle plant, catateca. Mike, his best friend Tom, and his Dad Phil have the most unusual vacation experience ever trying to keep Ellen from ending up like one of the mummies in Guanajuato’s famous Museo de las Momias--dead!
