A story of betrayal, secrets, romantic suspense and mystery
Nora LeDuc wrote TRUST ME after being inspired by a Vanity Fair article about Bernie Madoff. Mr. Madoff was an American stockbroker, investment adviser and financier who was convicted of fraud. In fact, his Ponzi scheme is considered to be the largest financial fraud in US history. His losses to investors was estimated at $18 billion, and he was sentenced to 150 years in prison.
The cunning and deception of this man intrigued Nora and soon became the model for the father in TRUST ME. But of special interest to the author was how the family dealt with the fallout of the crime. All suffered from Bernie’s offenses and were condemned as guilty by the public. Their lifestyles were destroyed. They lost their homes, family and friends and were vilified by the press.
Ela Danforth the heroine in TRUST ME suffers the same fate as the Madoff children. She has been found innocent, but moves from her home in Manhattan, seeking peace and a place to be unknown. She settles in her aunt’s former home in New England with a new name and occupation. Unfortunately in this day of the internet and social media disappearing or blending in is not accomplished easily. She soon finds her hope of a new life destroyed by a stalker and mysterious phone calls. In her struggles to live in peace and connect to a new love, Ela must face the question who can she trust.
