On a hot sticky afternoon just outside Cairo, Dr. Priscilla Hackling is summoned from below ground to find the police closing her dig. Speaking to the officer in charge, she’s asked to follow him to headquarters. A murder investigation has been reopened and the taunt rope she calls her life unravels.
Accused of her fiancĂ©’s death three years ago with their major find, the breastplate of the high priest ripped from his hands, Pricilla fights to keep the memory at bay. The artifact has been discovered in a shipment of rice leaving the country. The police have a suspect and they need Pricilla’s help. Unfortunately she’s the bait in their ruse.
She’s allowed to take one trusted individual to an obscure site in Siwa where the sting operation will take place and has little time to find anyone. Trafficking Agent Donnie Barnes is suggested and sparks fly during their first meeting. She considers him arrogant and rude, but she has no other choice.
Priscilla, not willing to deal with the ghosts of her past, senses a romantic relationship with Agent Barnes isn’t possible even though they experience the electricity jolting between them. He wants her to be whole, but she’s struggling to come to terms with the choices she’s made.
During their stay in Siwa, where they hope to catch the murderer, Donnie is successful, but unfortunately Priscilla is injured in a dig collapse. While recovering, she discovers someone is after her. They’re looking for something she has. She’s in danger and has no idea why.
She can’t trust the police and assumes her apartment is bugged. When her employer at the museum becomes entangled in the situation, Priscilla has no one else to turn to but Agent Barnes, but is it too late to save her?
