A baby's arrival in a 'family of choice', where the parents may be two gay guys and two lesbian women, can have a few variations from that for a heterosexual couple. In this story, the mum's doctor suggests that the other three parents come along for the first antenatal visit. Then there is the question whether all four parents would be permitted in the delivery suite. As it happens, the midwife thinks the multiple support is great. While the biological father experiences similar anxieties to that of a straight guy, his role here fits the different circumstances. It is the partner of the mother who administers a back-rub during labour and receives the baby as he emerges. The partner of the father cuts the umbilical cord. Once the mum returns home, her partner takes leave from work for the first week and then the guys step in to help with domestic chores. But in that first week they all spend time with the baby for bonding and help the baby's mum as needed. The Dad's father is mildly incredulous when he learns that all parents were present for the birthing. His mother asks the right questions, though. It seems she is getting a kick out of the novelty and difference of the situation.
