I have a love-hate relationship with parties. I love the idea of having them, of serving sumptuous foods and unique beverages to my friends, but I hate the idea of actually doing the physical part of it. Why?
Because I am shy, I lack party confidence, and I am attacked by an entire herd of "what-ifs" that buzz around me like the Wicked Witch of the West's flying monkeys.
I have eight kids and I can tell you that all of those kids have provided plenty of opportunities for parties.
- Going away parties
- Graduation parties
- Birthday parties
- End of school parties
You name it -- our lives are seriously one party after another. I learned pretty fast that in order to survive I was going to have to get over myself and find a way to make it work.
Have I mentioned that I am one of the shyest people you will ever meet?
I realized that by careful planning I could really make any party effortless. As I threw more parties and entertained more my confidence grew because they always, ALWAYS were successful! If I can do it with my shyness, my eight kids, and my 16 hour workdays then you can do it whatever your lifestyle or circumstances. Once you start being the party goddess (or god, for that matter) of your neighborhood you will actually love throwing parties because you'll be having so much fun, I promise.
