This is my third attempt at a novel and my first attempt at aiming for a more mainstream market.
"Gated" has been a little bit of success for me in the UK. During its free giveaway weekend it hit the #1 spot on the UK Amazon Horror Chart. Now that it is on sale it has a high of #4 on the UK Amazon Horror Chart and #2 on the Horror/Thriller chart.
It seems to be popular with female readers who identify with the carefully constructed characters and they have consistently reviewed the book as fun, thrilling and exciting.
As an indie author finding myself in the charts amongst professional authors with large publishing companies backing them is a little daunting to say the least. I nearly had a heart attack when I checked my sales and chart position to find myself sandwiched between Stephen King and James Herbert on the UK chart.
I have worked three jobs almost solidly for about two years in order to save up enough money to have a real crack at this writing lark. My first two attempts, although full of good intentions, now seem woefully short and I hope to find the time to go back and re-write them both at some point. I am working hard writing all day every day in order to get better as a writer, as there really is no shortcut to experience. Since self-publishing "Gated" at the start of December 2012, I have recently completed a first draft of "Asylum" which is a collection of short horror/thriller stories, which hopefully gives a little idea as to just how much effort I am putting into this dream.
I have no pretentions that I am reinventing the wheel with my current work, but I do hope to produce stories with a modicum of intelligence, touch of flair and a smidge of poetry to my writing. I hope to one day find the confirmation of being signed and published, but until then I can only just keep chugging along.
Kind regards
